Rotating vs sticky sessions: choosing the right session type
Session type controls how long you keep the same exit IP before the pool gives you a new one. Getting this wrong is one of the most common reasons a working proxy setup suddenly starts failing.
Rotating sessions
Every request (or every new connection, depending on your tool) gets a fresh IP from the pool. This is the right default for high-volume scraping — spreading requests across thousands of IPs means no single address gets rate-limited or blocked, even if you're making tens of thousands of requests per hour.
Sticky sessions (10 or 30 minutes)
You keep the same IP for the chosen window. This matters whenever the target site tracks state by IP — logging into an account, completing a multi-step checkout, or any flow where switching IPs mid-session would look suspicious or break a session cookie tied to your address.
How to choose
- Scraping product listings or search results in bulk → Rotating
- Logging into and managing an account → Sticky 30m
- Completing a short checkout or form flow → Sticky 10m
- Monitoring the same page repeatedly from a fixed "location" → Sticky, so results stay consistent
You can set this per batch in Generate proxies, so it's easy to run rotating and sticky endpoints side by side for different parts of the same project.
